Community Energy Switch
In July 2020 we set up a Community Energy Switch programme with BigCleanSwitch, a leading renewable energy comparison website which shows you how you can save money and the planet by switching your energy supplier. When asked “How did you hear about us?” on their website, please make sure to you select “Sustainable Chesham”! We are hoping to get Chesham Town Council and The Green Party’s support in promoting this scheme to the community in the next few months. Find out more about the BigCleanSwitch Partnership scheme here.
It’s a quick and easy way to engage the community and connect with a large number of householders to make a big impact on the whole town’s carbon footprint. We hope to encourage as many people as possible to switch to an energy provider who supplies energy from renewable sources. For every switch made, Sustainable Chesham will receive 50% of the switch fee which we will use to fund local sustainable projects. If you would like to get involved with this project more (we need help with marketing) please get in touch.
What is renewable energy?
Renewable, or ‘green’ or ‘clean’ energy comes from natural sources or processes that are constantly replenished. So this is energy generated from the elements – sun, wind, water (rivers, tides or wave power) and biofuels (gas released by rotting food and agricultural waste). Unlike electricity generated by burning fossil fuels (oil, coal and gas), renewable energy has little impact on climate change and air pollution.
